Catharine Dickenson 1840 ~

Hello and welcome dear needlefolk friends!

Finally, a nice quiet moment to post a blog!

Yesterday we woke up to 8.5" of snow, and today
it's bitterly cold out, all the schools and even our Mall is closed
through Wednesday!

Fortunately my son Sam's pickup truck has four wheel drive,
he drove me to the print shop yesterday so I could get a
new Antique Reproduction Sampler pattern released...
"Catharine Dickenson 1840"

Stitched on 32ct. Picture This Plus "Ale" linen,
using overdyed thread (pattern includes DMC alternative.)

Little Catharine was only 9 years old when she stitched her
charming sampler back in 1840...that's 179 years ago!

The upper section of the linen is stitched with three rows of
alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns followed by two rows of
family initials with Catharine's details beneath.

The lower section of the linen is stitched with a central
rosebush with a dog and little bird perched on a carnation bud to the left,
and a duck and bird perched on top of a floral motif to the right.

The uppermost bloom of the rosebush has a tree and
floral motif on either side.

Catharine's origin was the United Kingdom.

This antique reproduction sampler pattern is now

Registration for this years Handworke Club
is now available...

This years club theme will be focused on "Birds"!

I'll be posting updates as the first project progresses,
with a scheduled ship date of approximately
February 28th.

Here's a glimpse of some new fabrics recently
added to my stash, hoping they might work
out as club fabric!

I'm in love with these antique bird scissors,
and double ended ebony pinkeep, my husband and son gifted
them to me for Christmas!

It's so exciting when this magazine arrives in my mailbox,
to open it up and see one of my patterns featured...

Before yesterday's big snowfall, we were flying through
winter with hardly any snow...
We took these pictures last weekend while out on a Sunday drive!

Love the old windmill nestled amongst the trees!

Check out this intricate design...

When it's really bitterly cold, there is one window in
our old 1886 farmhouse that gets all frosty and
creates this natural work of art!

This doesn't happen often, so when it does I'm
just mesmerized by the design!

  1. Oh Tammy...I absolutely love this one... I try to keep to smaller pieces as the linen is hard on my eyes...but dang....that Robin has me enticed... And the bird scissors!!! EEEK! Where did you find them??? Hope you’re staying warm...we are in the throes of some crazy cold windchills and I know you are not that far from us... Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  2. Catharine is beautiful. Love that big Carnation.
Love those fabrics, especially the tan one.
Your Hubby & son are so special to find you such great goodies!
Here in WI, we used to have the "January thaw", but this year it didn't snow much until January.
We will have a thaw well into Spring, I'm afraid!
The snow crystals are beautiful, aren't they?
We had some that looked like spiderwebs, then the sun came out & they were gone.
    Stay warm!

  4. What a beautiful blog Tammy...Catharine is gorgeous, I’m amazed at the age of this young girl when she stitched this. Your Christmas gifts I’m in love with what treasures..your husband & son know you well!! Enjoy... God blesses us with nature everyday but I must say living in Bemidji,MN I did a happy dance now that the Polar Vortex is gone & we were 18 degrees yesterday!! Many blessings for a wonderful weekend.
