Acorn Announcement ~

 Welcome friends...hope you all enjoyed

a wonderful week!

I know this is Friday, but it sure seems

like Monday to me...I was sick ALL week with a cold!

It's great to feel like myself again, and to 

 be back at work...I need to catch up on a lot of things!

Please meet some of my Studio Squirrels...

These are my three antique squirrel pinkeeps.

The squirrel holding a pine cone is a 

cold painted Austrian Vienna bronze.

The gold gilded squirrel came from the United Kingdom,

 I restored the pinkeep and fitted him

with a handmade acorn.

The small squirrel is from Germany,

and is Sterling Silver. 

Today, they would like to help me announce the 

winning name for the Acorn gift giveaway drawing...

The Sheepish Needle Samplar Club update...

I love sheep faces like this one, long noises  

 and ears straight out to the sides!

(one of my local country side sheep models)

I fell a little behind schedule this week with

being sick...

I'm working on the hand finished seam now.

Over the weekend I'll be able to finish it up...

For the finishing I'll be using carded sheep wool.

Watch for the reveal on Monday's post!

so many nice old buildings.

Nice rolling hills in the back ground!

Especially love the old stone foundation!

Acorn Pinkeep Gift Giveaway ~

Sunday's are my favorite day of the week...so peaceful!

Yesterday, I started charting a "Secret Sampler" that will

be worked on....only on Sundays!

I'll share little tid bits until I'm ready to release it.

The stitch count will be 192W by 209H, 

and the model will be stitched on 36 count linen.

Saturday was spent stitching on the soon to be released

model for "The Sheepish Needle" Samplar Club...

Kits will include two of these small pearl shell rings...hope to

reveal the finished model on Monday, October 12th.

Look at these wonderful Morning Glories I passed while on

one of my walks to the post office...

I've always wanted to plant some Morning Glories but 

time always seems to get away from me!

While at my local print shop these 

beauties were just screaming to have their

picture taken...

These are growing in the alley right behind the print shop!

I decided to get a closer look...

Aren't they fascinating, but wait till you see the 

busy bees working hard...

 First, they tunnel their whole body down into the 

center....

Then they start backing their little "bee butts" back out and

onto the next flower!

I love pulling over whenever I see a 

great old barn...

What a dandy...love the old stone foundation!

This awesome barn is only a couple of miles from our 

farm on a twisty turny country road.

Surrounded by corn fields.

Nice old sliding door with neat looking vents above it.

I just love old building and barns...how about you?

My needle and thread are calling my name...I'm off

to start stitching a special sheep on my sampler!

Will share another progress update on Friday.

Mr. Squirrel Dressed for Autumn

Welcome friends, hope your Friday 

was fabulous!

I'm dressed for Fall wearing a cozy sweater 

and as I type this my hands were so 

cold I needed to put on some fingerless gloves!

The Studio is so quiet with no air conditioning 

or fans...I could hear a pin drop!  

♦

Mr. Squirrel was transformed back into a working pinkeep

while watching Monday night football...

I started with a small scrap of vintage dark olive drab velvet.

Then packed it very firmly with sawdust...

....and finished by distressing it with my secret antiquing 

methods to give it an old look. 

I decided to make a handmade acorn that 

would fit just right between his two paws...

The acorn was made in the same manner as the pinkeep,

except embellished with a real acorn cap!

I hope he'll be happy for many years to come

dressed in his new suit of clothes!

Next week, 

I'll be doing a free gift give away drawing for a

 similar handmade acorn...please watch for

all the details next week.

The above photo shows a sneak peek of the 

Civil War Reproduction fabric that will

be used in this project.

I'm working on finalizing the pattern so I can 

cut the linen and start stitching on the 

samplar over the weekend...hope to 

share a sneak peek of that on Monday.

I decided to fill my old wire garden basket with

the beautiful "Wild Bittersweet" that was 

gifted to me last week by my special 

friend Ona...

It was a perfect fit!

 I added some tall branches of daisy like weeds,

and nestled in my two dove decoys...what do

you think?

The highlight of my week was going over 

to my friend Ona's house to gather

more Bittersweet and Acorns...

This is her gorgeous "American Bittersweet" bush 

just loaded with branches of berries! 

This is a close up of the berries on the bush.

 My gatherings include from left to right...

basket of dead headed Marigold flowers, branches of 

American Bittersweet, and a basket of Acorns.

Acorns come in many different varieties, these are large

dark acorns.

 Plenty of wonderful acorn caps to add to my 

stash for making acorn pinkeeps!

 Dead headed Marigold's will be dried and their

seeds saved for next year.

I was excited to prep the Bittersweet branches for drying.

I started by attaching a looped string from the tops

of the branches.

Next, I removed all the green leaves, then hung

them to dry from the beam in the Studio.

I was excited to see how they would look the 

next morning...

WOW...most of the berries had popped overnight!

 And now they are ALL popped and ready to start 

drying!

All of the out of print charts shown on 

Monday were listed Thursday night

on Ebay as auctions all with 

starting bids of .99¢
