A Winter's Day ~

Welcome dear needlefolk friends!

We are in the middle of a big snow storm...
expecting 10" before it's over!

It's safe to say we'll be
enjoying a White Christmas!

"Olde Man Winter" may be showing
his face today, but that's just part of being
born and raised in Wisconsin!

Yesterday we could hear a flock of
Swans flying over our farm...

Sounded like they were saying;
WE'RE OUTTA HERE!

Hope they find a nice warm state to
land in real soon!

After running errands this morning
I found my husband and son waiting for
me in my studio with a very
unusual surprise...

A wounded Kestrel!

This fellow swooped into my husbands shop.

Wounded, my husband picked him up and
carried him outside for a few photos.

Kestrel's are North America's smallest falcon,
the American Kestrel packs a predator's fierce
intensity into its small body.

They brought him over to my Studio
because I just happen to have
a big old brass bird cage!

Kestrel's are one of the most colorful
of all raptors.

The male's slate~blue head and wings
contrast elegantly with his rusty~red back and tail.

Check out those talons!
Kestrel's love hunting for insects and other
small prey in open territory, perching on
wires or poles, or hover facing into the
wind, flapping and adjusting their long
tails to stay in place.

We're still not sure how he's hurt?

So, he patiently rested while my
husband made some phone calls.

We ended up taking him to our local
humane society, which has an excellent care
facility for wounded birds.

They said we can check back on his
progress in a week and when he has
fully recovered they want to release him
 back on our farm.

The staff really liked the old brass bird cage!

Weekend Soul Food...

Behold the fowls of the air:
for they sow not, neither do they reap,
nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?
