I'm happy to reveal the finish today....

 ©2015 Scattered Seed Samplers

This little sampler is in honor of
Queen Esther from the Bible.
She's wearing a little crown on her head.

....blessed are the PURE in heart;
for they shall see God.  Matthew 5:8...KJV

Stitched on 32ct R&R Linen (Flax Fields),
using all DMC cotton thread.

With a stitch count of 64W by 96H,
giving you a design area of 4 X 6.

If stitched on 32ct linen or 16ct aida this little
sampler will fit a standard size 5 X 7 frame perfectly!

After the stitching was completed I coffee stained the sampler
before framing.

I'll share my process from start to finish....

Here is my sampler after stitching, next I always pre~treat

It's very quick and easy to do.  All you need is the following:

~ Medium size bowl
~ Vinegar (White is best but Apple Cider is okay)

~ Fill bowl with VERY COLD water
~ Add 1 Tablespoon of VINEGAR
~ Add your finished sampler
~ Let soak for approx. 3 minutes
~ Rinse with tepid (cool) water
~  Squeeze out the excess water

Now the colors are set and safe from bleeding!

Leave crumpled up after squeezing out water
~ Boil 1-2 cups of hot water
~ Add 1-2 Tablespoons of instant coffee

For a small piece I add 1T. coffee to 1 cup water, and for
larger pieces I add 2T. coffee to 2 cups water.

Your wet crumpled sampler is now ready to dip.

Drop your crumpled sampler into the coffee bath.

Once completely immersed...let soak for 1-3 minutes.

~ Soak 1 minute for a light stain
~ Soak 2 minutes for a medium stain
~ Soak 3-5 minutes for a dark stain

~ Squeeze out excess coffee
~ Leave crumpled
~ Place onto a cookie sheet

~ Open just slightly
~ Place into a 200 degree oven
~ Checking often until dry ~ approx. 15-20 minutes

Here is mine all dry...just out of the oven!

This is how the front size looks before pressing.

Flip your piece over to the back it's
ready to press.

Use a good hot iron.  I also use the steam button to get a
good finish.

All finished and ready to frame!

Don't be afraid to try coffee staining...if you don't like it you can
always rinse it under cool water to remove most of the

Hope I didn't bore you with my finishing technique!

And now with Valentine's Day only four weeks away
here is a splash of red....

Another rescued piece from a flea market!

The red paint and handpainted flowers are original....I only
had to add the pincushion.

For this I used a scrap of old velvet from my stash,
and then antiqued and distressed it to look old.

My little rabbits friends have a blanket of snow
covering them during their Winter's nap!

  2. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your finishing technique! Thank you for sharing.

  3. Tammy, she is just beautiful. Thank you for the great tutorial, too.

  4. Your new design is wonderful. It will work well for punchneedle too. Great tips on how you aged the finished piece.

  5. thanks for a tutorial and beautiful work.

  6. Beautiful design definitely adding to my shopping list. Great tips on setting and aging fabric. Oh the tears flow when the reds run!

  7. Oh I do love that bird. Your stitchery back is the neatest I have ever seen!

  8. Tammy, Good to see how you Aged the piece. I have a sampler I purchased for a song, but the colors are far too bright and gaudy for my tastes. I am going to try this recipe to tone it down a bit and if it works, I will finally frame the piece and hang it.

  9. I cannot find this wonderful pattern at your Esty shop. Can I still order this pattern? Please.

    1. Hi there,

Yes, It is available....I've ADDED more to the Etsy listing :) Thank you SO much for bringing this to my attention!!! Blessings from Scattered Seed Samplers, Kindly Tammy
