Weekend Treasure Hunting ~

Welcome dear friends...happy Monday!

After a very productive and relaxing
weekend I'm ready to start this new week!

Worked all day Saturday turning my farmhouse
office into my designing "Library."

I made a lot of progress, but still not finished.
I'll share photos probably next week.

Studio News...

Sharing with you today is a little sneak peek of
the Antique Sampler that will be my next reproduction...

"Lydia Barnes Pidgeon 1827"
C2016 Scattered Seed Samplers

Little Lydia stitched this sampler at the age of 9.
This sampler is completely charming with fine quality
handwork throughout.

Lydia was born December 29, 1818 and
laid to rest October 24, 1857 at the age of 39.

She lived in Bloomsbury, London.

I'm in the process of choosing silk threads and
just the right linen to match this lovely antique sampler.

This is a gorgeous old sampler and I can hardly wait to
start stitching it...so I can share the finish with you!

This weekend was the official start of
 another year of antiquing!

For me it always starts in April with a wonderful little
local Antique show held at Logan High School,
LaCrosse, Wisconsin...

My first must have was this sweet oval tray with
little brass ball feet, old lace framed between the glass.

Here's a better view of the pretty lace!

My heart jumped a beat when I spied the
charming little "Chatelaine"...
The heart charm is inset with a faceted
citrine glass stone and the little key has a flower design.

The chains are quite nice and are probably
gold plated.

The cut citrine glass seal has "Ann" inscribed in very
tiny script.

I could not resist the lovely Victorian fan pin disc...
The sides are silk and the center is blue velvet.
The handle of the fan is formed by wrapped silk threads.
Glass head pins, alternating blue & green.

I instantly fell in love with the photo
in an old round brass frame...
Check out the neat frame closure on the backside!

The weekend also included a trip to the Milwaukee area...
My son Sam took old building photos while we
were driving...love round barnes!

Oh how I yearn to come to this area...it is my birthplace and
there are endless sites to see!

West Salem is on the Western border of Wisconsin,
and Milwaukee is on the Eastern border!

Look at this old building...
Plain and simple...love the windmill!

Not one, but two really special little buildings...
I'm not sure what they are, but I sure like them!

Here's a closer look at the second one...
Oh my goodness...I would love to have this building
moved onto our farm!

Check out the awesome brick corner tower...
So cool, if you look close it even has Ivy vines growing
on it...must be beautiful in the summer!

An old stone silo...
I love the quaint look of stone structures!

Are you still waiting for Springs arrival?
I'm hoping it will come soon...I can hardly wait
to get out and start walking again!

Enjoy your week...see you on Friday!

  2. Another beautiful sampler! Love the color too. It always amazes me when I see the age of the girls that create these works of art. The creativity, the details and beautiful colors chosen. I know that's what young ladies were taught so long ago, I also know at 9 I wouldn't have attempted it! Thank you for sharing that, and your pictures. Maybe one day I'll get to see places like that, rich with history. Have a pleasant day Tammy :-)

  3. Lovely post, Tammy. Thank you so much for sharing the photos of the countryside, so different to Australia. Gorgeous antique finds - you have chosen well - and I cannot wait to see your sampler all stitched up - the sneak peek looks stunning, so far.

    1. The tray with the lace insert is a perfume tray, for displaying perfume bottles. I love to use them for displaying collections of needlework tools or finished needlework smalls.

  9. Love the round barns-- built that way, so I've been told, so the Devil couldn't find a corner to hide...
